Shirley May Cunningham, age 91, of Roscommon, Michigan passed away Sunday afternoon, June 6, 2021 under the loving care of her family and hospice at Eden Fields Assisted Living in Standish, Michigan.

Shirley was born July 20, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan. Upon graduation, Shirley married Richard Elliot Cunningham on April 19, 1948 and together they raised two sons, Richard and Michael. She and Richard resided many years in the metro Detroit area before moving to Higgins Lake where they have enjoyed more than 20 years of retirement. Shirley loved spending time with her group of lady friends for their weekly dinner outings and shopping trips as well as her family spending time in Florida and Higgins Lake and Au Gres areas.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, Richard; sons, Rick (Jackie) Cunningham of Au Gres, Michigan and Mike (Patricia) Cunningham of Canton, Michigan; grandchildren, Patty DeSanto, Julie (Dave) Hansen, Krista (Tim) Nalodka, Andrea Cunningham, Christina (Chuck) Battle, Nicholas (Kim) Cunningham, Bill (Jennifer) Zagon, Andrew (Kayla) Ogden; great grandchildren, Kali, Mitchell, Robbie, Aidan, Atlee, Madison, Ella, Sophia, Dan, Jack, Nicholas, Brooklyn, Taylor, and Liam; and brother, Marvin DeRose. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy (DeRose) and father, Dick Brader.

According to Shirley’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held in late July 2021 at the family residence in Higgins Lake. She will be laid to rest in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Eden Fields Assisted Living, 3567 Deep River Road, Standish, Michigan 48658 or American Hospice Care, 2575 McLeod Drive North, Saginaw, Michigan 48604, or a charity of your choice in memory of Shirley.
