Robert "Bob" George Pero
April 21, 1923 - April 13, 2021
A Private funeral mass, with military honors, will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Hale, Michigan on Friday, April 16, 2021.
Robert George Pero (Bob), age 98 of Hale, Michigan, died as a result of stroke complications on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at his son’s home in Houghton Lake, Michigan surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 21, 1923 in Bay City, Michigan to the late Robert E and Cecilia (Metevia) Pero.
Bob graduated from St. Johns High School, Essexville, MI class of 1943. He married his high school sweetheart, Lucille M Deary on August 21, 1943 in Springfield, Missouri and retired in 1979 from Dow Chemical in Bay City, MI after 33+ years. Bob was a hunter, fisherman, accomplished wood carver, a musician (trumpet player) in his own band in the 1940’s and unbeatable in Euchre. He was a loyal member of Knights of Columbus, Moose Club and the Happy Chippers Carving Club of Hale. Bob is a parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Hale, Michigan and former parishioner at St. John’s Catholic Church in Essexville, MI.
Immediately following his marriage, he was drafted into the US Army and served our country in WWII, until 1945. Bob achieved the rank of Sergeant and Medical Technician in the 188th General Hospital in the Philippines. He also served in New Guinea and Australia during the war.
He is survived by his children: Sheila (Jack) Adamowski of Fort Meyers Beach, FL; Sue (Wayne) Doyen of South Branch, MI; Michael (Rene’e) Pero of Essexville, MI; Bob (Karen) Pero of Houghton Lake, MI and Lori (Mark) Manyen of Mason, MI. “Grandpa” will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by his 11 grandchildren; Steve Adamowski, Melissa (Brad) Steere, Mathieu (Jennifer) Pero, Adam (Jamie) Pero, Michelle (Scott) Kostrzewa, Shannon (Jeff) Sinning, Andrew (Sarah) Doyen, Brad (Shelley) Pero, Sean (Shentel) Pero, Allen (Beth) Manyen and Sara (Cory) Beck. His 21 great-grandchildren; Brittany, BrookeLyn, Brett, Desmond, Sam, Alexia, Grace, Landric, Madeleine, Ashtyn, Jackson, Cooper, Alexandra, Reagan, Emmett, Hugh, Carson, McKinley, Katherine, Wells and Rhett.
He is also survived by his three sisters; MaryLou Lutz, Margaret Deshano and Jeanie Davert; In-laws Geraldine Pero, Joanne Pero and Hank Cielinski; and, will be deeply missed by dozens of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Bob was welcomed home to heaven, by his beautiful bride, Lou, of 73 years of marriage; his parents Robert E and Cecilia (Metevia) Pero; his brothers William, Joseph, Edward (Dorothy), Richard (Mary Grace), Pat, George, Tom (Paula) (Martha); sister Carol (Jerry) Petrimoulx; June Marie; In-laws, Alma and Fred Deary, Clifford (Molly) Deary, Norman (Jean) Deary; Larry Lutz and Bob Davert.
A private visitation and funeral mass, with military honors, will be held on Friday, April 16th at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Hale, Michigan.
