Obituary Notice

Earl Edwin Burgis, of Tawas City, formerly of Canton, Michigan, passed away at his home on Friday, April 9, 2021, age 84 years.  Earl was born to Edwin and Vivian (Biggar) Burgis in Detroit on April 28, 1936.  He enlisted in the Air Force, defending  our country in both the Korean and Vietnam wars, leaving high school early.  Earl proudly served our nation for 14 years and upon returning home, he went back and earned his high school degree and then continued his education earning a Bachelor's degree! Earl worked for General Motors and Wilson ATM Services for 24 years, retiring in 1992.  Earl was a devout Christian man and was a member of the East Tawas Church of the Nazarene.  He was also a life member of the VFW, American Legion, and the Vietnam Veterans of America.  Earl married the love of his life, Carol Ann (Moffat on September 27, 1975.  Together they shared 35 beautiful years of marriage until Carol's passing in 2011.  Earl is also preceded in death by his mother and father, Vivian and Edwin Burgis; and a son Melvin Moffat, Jr.  Earl is survived by his 2 daughters, Jennifer (Richard) Mulherin of Tawas City, and Sheri Moffat of New Hudson, Michigan; 2 grandchildren, Kenneth Mulherin of Grand Rapids and Allen Mulherin of Flint; 1 sister, Arlene LaFontsee of Tenessee; 1 nephew, James (Laura) Szabo of Tennessee.  Earl also leaves behind many special friends, including his "Favorite Brits", Michelle Kennedy and Rosemary Mount, and last but not least, his faithful companion, Buddy, a rescue dog who Earl often said rescued him.  Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the East Tawas Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Jerry Wallace officiating.  His family will welcome friends at the church for a time of visitation on Wednesday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral.  Earl will be laid to rest in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery in Tawas City with full military honors following the funeral ceremony.  Those wishing to express their condolences are encouraged to make a memorial contribution to the Iosco County Humane Society or the VFW.  An online guest register is available to leave a message of love and support at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
