Obituary Notice

Walter J. Murringer Sr, loving "Pa" or better known as dad, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at his home in National City at 87 years of age. Walter was born on February 5, 1930 in Muskegon to Louis and Julia (Doerr) Murringer. After his high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served our country during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. Upon his honorable separation from the Army, Walter moved back home to begin his long career with the Michigan Regional Carpenters as a skilled carpenter in the building construction profession. He was a very hard worker who prided himself in perfection, and these respected traits are what he passed along to his children. Outside of work, Walter truly enjoyed the experiences of the outdoors such as trout fishing in the rivers and streams, hunting, and picking huckleberries and blueberries. He was also a competitive card player! Walter was a long time member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Tawas City, the VFW, and American Legion. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. Walter is preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne Murringer in 2009. The couple were wed on June 11, 1955 in Tawas City and celebrated 54 beautiful years of marriage before Yvonne's passing. Walter is also preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Julia Murringer. He is now survived by his beloved children, Skip Murringer and his wife Karen of National City, Mark Murringer of Shingleton, David Murringer and his wife Raye Ann of National City, and Colleen Bischoff and her husband Andy of Tawas; 4 grandchildren, Matthew, Mark, Carrie, and Sarah; 6 great grandchildren, Trevor, Tyler, Hunter, Haley, Kylie, and Cole; and many special friends. Per his wishes, cremation will take place and his family will honor his life through a memorial service which will be held at a later date to be announced. Those wishing to express their condolences are encouraged to make a donation to the Children's Hospital in Detroit in specific to cancer research in Walter's name. An online guest registry is available at
