Obituary Notice

Walter Gebhard Nagel, age 86 years, passed away in his home in Tawas City, Michigan after a courageous battle with cancer January 2, 2021. Walt was born the son of Walter and Leonie Nagel on October 26, 1934 in Flint, Michigan.
Walt is survived by his loving wife, Jan, of 64 years; his faithful canine companion, Barney; children, Julia (Gary) MacDonald of Charlotte; Wally Nagel of Owosso, and Ted Nagel of Illinois; five grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; numerous extended family and friends all who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Leonie (Schneider) Nagel.
Walt was a Notre Dame Graduate and served his country enlisting in the United States ARMY, and then worked for more than 30 years for General Motors. After his retirement, Walt and Jan moved north to Tawas City where they enjoyed having get togethers with their neighbors and watching Notre Dame football. Walt loved to hunt, fish and golf.
Visitation for Walt will take place on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 416 Lincoln Street, East Tawas, Michigan. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:00 PM. The family will welcome friends from 12 O’clock Noon until the time of service. Interment will take place Thursday, January 7, 2021 in Tyrone Cemetery in Fenton, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the American Cancer Society in memory of Walt. My deepest sympathies to the family. Walt and I worked together at GM for many years. Walt always was a kind soul. Always remember his cigar and his tie askew. :)
