Obituary Notice

Walter Edwin Broadworth, a lifelong resident of Delano (AuGres), passed away at his home on Thursday, January 9, 2020, after a long and adventurous life of 100 years, 11 months and nine days! Walter was born the only child to Isaac E. and Florence J. (Pendred) Broadworth in Constantine, Michigan on January 30, 1919. He attended Delano School and learned the value of hard work and dedication at an early age. Spending most of his time at an early age working long hard hours on his family farm, he also quickly learned the knowledge of becoming a skilled carpenter, a trade that Walter excelled in during his adult working career throughout the state of Michigan. In his younger years, Walter developed into an accomplished baseball athlete, mostly playing 3rd base position and pitcher. His love of the game and his devotion to be the best he could, earned him a roster position with the NEM (North Eastern Michigan) Baseball League. Walter's passion for the game of baseball carried throughout his entire life and he will always be remembered for being a diehard Detroit Tigers fan! Walter decided to step away from the full time carpentry profession in 1981 and enjoy his well-deserved retirement years. He was able to remain healthy and active during his retirement and he could enjoy a wide variety of hobbies, such as gardening, woodworking, hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, and spending the winters in Florida! He remained in good standing within the Carpenters Union for 62 1/2 years, maintaining memberships with both #118 in Bay City and #687 in Detroit. He was also a member of the Coachmen Club, the Point AuGres Snowmobile Club, and the AuGres Snowmobile Club. Above everything else, Walter dearly cherished all of his time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren! He is survived by his 3 loving children, Darlene (William) Beier, Colin Broadworth, and Jean (Charles) Savage all of AuGres; grandchildren, Karen (Lou) Medina, Kimberly (Craig) Moore, Karl (Theresa) Beier, Heather (Dean) Worden, Thomas (Jennifer) Savage, Bonnie (Alex) Porter, Walter (Christyle) Broadworth, Colin (Amy) Broadworth; great grandchildren, Zachary, Addison, Natalie, MacKenzie, Max, Samantha, Hailey, Nicholas, Julia, Jordyn, Luke, Spencer, Aidan, Blake, Chloe, Brandy, Dino, Kaitlyn, Keely, Joseph, Emily, and Denton; 3 nieces, 7 nephews; Steve, a special friend of the family, and many other dear friends. Walter is preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved wife of 79 years, Irene "Edna" Broadworth. Walter and Edna married on December 5, 1938 in Goshen, Indiana and fulfilled their lives together with love and happiness until Edna's passing on April 3, 2018. Walter is also preceded in death by his daughter in law, Mary Broadworth. His family will welcome friends for visitation on Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at the Buresh Funeral Home in AuGres.
