Obituary Notice

Ruth "Tutie" Blanche Horger, of East Tawas, formerly of Utica, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, age 97 years. Tutie’s parents George and Ruth (Martin) Dunn were from Michigan and while visiting Long Beach, California Tutie was born on June 8, 1920, and the family returned to Michigan after her birth where Tutie was raised.
She attended St. Mary's Academy and graduated in the class of 1939. She married her husband and best friend, George Harger, on October 12, 1940 at the St. Lawrence Church in Utica. Tutie will be forever remembered for her passion for making rag rugs on the loom, sewing, making quilts and gardening. She was a hard working woman and very faithful Christian. Aside from raising the couple's 14 children, Tutie also worked tirelessly on the family farm, caring for both crops and livestock! She was a devout parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church, and the Catholic Council of Women (CCW). Tutie will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her! She is survived by her beloved children, Ruth Ann Williams of Sevierville, Tennessee, Donald (Barbara) Horger of East Tawas, Pamela (Michael) Meldrum of Sevierville, Tennessee, Daniel Horger of Whittemore, Terrance Horger of Rochester, Regina (Marvin) Wirgau of Whittemore, Mary Lou (Tommy) Smith of Oscoda, Christopher (Denise) Horger of Oakland, Michigan, John (Wendy) Horger of Glennie, son-in-law Jimmie Nelson of Hale, and daughter-in-law Debbie Jentz; 29 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins; and many dear friends. Tutie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George Horger; 5 children, Delores and her husband John Wolff, George and his wife Geraldine Horger, Wilbur Horger, Nicholas Horger, Susan Nelson, and son-in-law, Barry Williams and two brothers Robert Vincent and George Nicholas. Tutie's family will welcome friends for visitation on Sunday, June 10, from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at the Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City. A Rosary prayer service will be held that evening at 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Her funeral mass will be Monday, June 11, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Charles Donajkowski officiating. Her family will welcome friends at church Monday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the mass. She will be laid to rest in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery in Tawas City.
