When I think back on the milestone days of my life, Ray and Gola were always there. Graduation, wedding, funerals. They bought us presents for Christmas when we were little. Ray used to squirt us with milk when we watched him hand-milk his cows. I remember the cute little teardrop camper they bought; we marveled at how tiny it was. Ray and I considered ourselves members of a special club, because both of us had had open heart surgery (that was much more rare back in the 80's). Our family spent many a Saturday night at the Hendrickson's for some rowdy games of cards. I can hear Ray responding to a card played by his opponent, "You dirty pot-licker!", followed by a loud laugh. It makes me smile to think of Ray.
