A memorial service will take place at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2019 at Buresh Funeral Home, 15 West Maple Ridge Road, Twining, Michigan 48766. Ricky R. Rockwell will officiate with the Arenac Honor Guard rendering military honors.

Obituary Notice

Ray Samuel Nickell, age 71, of Alger, Michigan passed away Saturday afternoon, November 23, 2019 with his family by his side at home.

Ray was born January 14, 1948 in Sherman Township, Michigan to the late Clarence and Myrtle (Nichols) Nickell. Ray enlisted in the United States NAVY and honorably served during the Vietnam era in Hawaii, Spain and California. Upon discharge, he began a long time career as a painter for General Motors prior to his retirement. Ray was an active member of the Arenac Honor Guard and Wertz Warriors.

Ray is survived by his daughters, Samantha (Jim) Mitchell, Shirley (Nick) Moore, and Lindsay (Jason Parker) Nickell; step son Seth (Melissa) Adkins; grandchildren, Lexi (Kyle) Illig, Blake Mitchell, Payten Parker, Keagan Bender, Jacob Moore, Dalynn, Reese, Paige Adkins; extended family, Janet Nickell, Paul (Ann) Mead, Denise Welch, Bryan (Sue) Dell, Joe (Lori) Frey, and the rest of his “Forest Lake” family; siblings, Alvin Nickell, Dorothy Nedwick, Goldie Osborne, Etta Edwards, Esther Ward, Francis “Earl” (Fran) Nickell, and Pearl (Denny) Priest; numerous nieces, nephews. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by siblings, Calvin Nickell, Clarence Nickell, William Nickell, Robert Nickell, Sylvia Osborne, Lucille Allen, Ethen Nickell, and Thomas Nickell.

According to Ray’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2019 at Buresh Funeral Home, 15 West Maple Ridge Road, Twining, Michigan 48766. Ricky R. Rockwell will officiate with military honors rendered by the Arenac Honor Guard. Ray’s family will greet friends and neighbors at the funeral home from 12-2:00 p.m. Friday prior to the ceremony. He will be laid to rest at a later date in Cedar Valley Cemetery in Twining, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Wertz Warriors.
