Per his wishes, Leroy has been cremated. In a private service, he will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Glennie Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Service will be announced and held at a future date.
Leroy Austin, age 81 of Glennie, passed away peacefully at his home on November 28, 2020 with his family by his side.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Karola. Loving children, Michael (Dawn) Albrecht of Cedar Springs, Shirley (Robert Wilson) Pappas of Glennie and Leroy (Rebecca Nowaczyk) Austin of Glennie. Grandchildren, David (Kim) Pappas, Jr. of Urbandale, IA, Nichole Austin of Wolverine, Adam (Tracy) Albrecht of Cedar Springs, Katie (Chad) Vanderweele of Grand Rapids and Zakery Austin of Saginaw. Several step grandchildren, great grandchildren and step great grandchildren also survive. Siblings, Donny, Jim, Carla (George) and Jeaninne as well as many nieces and nephews. Sister-in-law, Annemarie Roy, Charlotte Hockings and brother-in-law, James Yearta. Leroy is also survived by his chocolate lab, Lucy, his faithful and loving companion.
Mr. Austin was preceded in death by his mother; Evangeline (Lauren) Valliere. Brothers, Lauren Valliere, David Valliere, Nick Hockings and Gene Hockings. Sister, Evangeline Beson and sisters-in-law; Julie Valliere, Lena Yearta and brother-in-law, Kenneth Roy.
Leroy was born in Hayward, Wisconsin on October 14, 1939 and grew up in Lac Du Flambeau, Wisconsin. He went on to serve our country with the United States Army and while serving in Germany, met and married his wife; Karola. After being honorably discharged from the armed forces, Leroy and Karola returned to the United States where Leroy worked for General Motors for 33 years. He enjoyed golfing, hockey, hunting, fishing and just about anything else that allowed him to be outdoors.
