Obituary Notice

Karen Ann Krumbach of Tawas, Michigan, passed away on Sunday June 21, 2020, at the age of 74.
She was born the first of six children, to Betty M. (Hergenroeder) Justin and Matthias C. Justin on December 10, 1945. After graduating from L’Ance Creuse High School in 1963, Karen attended Henry Ford College in Detroit where she completed her RN in nursing.
After marriage in 1968, and moves from Lansing to Sault Ste. Marie and Marquette, Karen settled in Tawas in 1978, where she raised three children and worked at the District Health Department.
Karen lived a life that was deep in faith and flowing with love. She loved her children and extended family immensely and delighted when all her grandchildren could be together for a big summer cookout or holiday dinner. She loved her brothers and sisters, and many nieces and nephews. She loved the Lord. Karen was devout in her Catholic faith and volunteered through the Holy Family parish along with annual retreats with the Marians.
She often reminded us “This is the day the Lord has made…” Or, when times seemed bad, “There’s a pony in there somewhere” a gentle reminder to stay optimistic and not be discouraged when life deals you a setback.
Karen re-married to Robert Krumbach in 2010, spending the last 10 years in Wilber Township tending to beautiful gardens, growing and canning produce that was generously shared with many friends and family. We hold many warm memories of Karen: sewing quilts, scolding errant chickens, driving around with Bob in restored Model A cars, watching turkey and deer feeding in the golden fields at sunset.
Karen is survived by her husband, three children: Eric Babe, Colleen Botos, Jeffrey Babe, and ten grandchildren.
Visitation for Karen will be held on Wednesday, June 24th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City. A Rosary service will be prayed Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM. Her funeral mass will be on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in East Tawas with Reverend Charles Donajkowski officiating. I’m going to dearly miss my Aunt Karen. She had a heart of gold, and was a gentle soul. I cherish the summer days when we would make pancakes that were as large as my head, take long walks during the sunset, garden in the backyard, or just stop and smell the pink roses outside the front door. I will miss you so much, Aunt Karen.

Karen Justin was one of my Henry Ford Hospital School of Nursing (not HFH Community College) classmates. A true Christian lady, a very compassionate nurse, wonderful wife and mother; and I am sooo proud to say my friend for more than 50 years. I was a bridesmaid in her wedding and always treasured her Christmas card & note. Karen had beautiful hand-writing and was beautiful inside and out. I love the photo with her obituary, it captures her joy in life. I saw her about 10 years ago and was set back by her hair color! Karen had really striking dark hair when we were young. She was so pretty, regardless the color of her hair! My sincere sympathy to her siblings, (Love my memories of your family & my visits to your home when we were in nursing school), her kids and Bob. I can't help crying, she was my friend & I shall miss her. With love, Joann Lange Yott, Class of 1966.

In our more than 50 years in the Tawases, Barb and I have known some wonderful, special, caring people. Karen was one of those. Her deep love and concern for others was unparalleled and her faith was unshakable. She never was too busy to smile and ask about family and friends. She never was too busy to share. She never was too busy to take a hand and offer comfort. She was a shining light in our community and will be deeply missed by family and friends. We love you Karen...

My heart is heavy with grief and if not for my faith in a better place and in my God who loves us without cease I would be totally broken. But our God in his wisdom needed Karen and that alone consoles me. I will miss my spiritual director, my mentor, my loving sister, my dearest friend. Karen Ann has been a presence in my life for over 64 years and even though I must say goodbye I am joyful that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will greet her with his long awaited loving embrace and in this I find the much needed solace I so need right now. May Gods eternal light shine upon you Karen and may you have everlasting peace in His name I pray.
— Michele

Hi Bob. So sorry to hear about your wife passing. I lost track of you after Grand Haven. Remembering our rabbit hunting expeditions with Bob Gonser and home made wine and smoked fish. I do hope you are doing well and you have my sincere condolences.
— Larry Culbertson
I was out of town and was eager to read the paper when I got home...as I stared at Karen’s obituary picture my husband said that is George’s wife’s mom. Oh geez, though I know the back of her better because I usually set in a pew behind her. I was stunned that sweet lady was gone. I only know her from mass but I could see the love she had for her family. She was always so happy to welcome Colleen, George and her beautiful grandchildren to join her in their pew. Holy Family has lost a major part of our family and my heart is broken for her family. May God Send You Peace. Bless your hearts, Pete & Alice Barnes
— Alice
