Obituary Notice

Age 92, of Oscoda, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. Jim was born June 21, 1928 to Maurice and Ida LaFave in Detroit, MI. Jim moved to Oscoda in 1950. He came to work with family at the Audra’s Restaurant and then opened his own restaurant, Jim’s Pizzeria. He also, through the years, had different occupations including working with Sheriff Ivan O’Farrell. Jim loved the outdoors and would spend time with his “swamp buddy” Marcus in Tuttle and Clarks marshes. Through the years, he and Shirley, the love of his life for 33 years, traveled the States and he enjoyed his “trip of his life” to Ireland with Robert. Jim was known by all of his friends for his story telling abilities and he would go for hours if you let him. We always said that he should have written a book. He is survived by companion Shirley Culberson; children, Lori, Tim (Corey), Robert (Lisa), and Sandra (Todd); grandchildren, James D. LaFave III, Dennis, Kayla, and Kendra and great grandchild, Isabella Rayne. Jim is preceded in death by his daughter, Roberta (Kay) LaFave and son, James LaFave, II. A Celebration of Life Service is planned for a later date. You may offer your condolences online at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.

Condolences

Condolences to the LaFave family. I remember Mr. & Mrs. LaFave. They were our adopted grandparents while my dad served in Vietnam. One of my fondest memories of Mr. LaFave, he dressed as Santa and woke my brothers, sister and I up. Great memories. Rest in Paradise Mr. LaFave.

I was stationed at Wurtsmith AFB from 1962-1966. I believe that Jim was the operator of what we called the “Upside Down Pizzeria”. (The sign was upside down.) If he was, than I delivered pizzas for him for about a year. He was a great guy and even took me hunting. May he Rest In Peace.
