Mrs. Ubbenjans has been cremated and will be laid to rest next to her husband at Esmond Evergreen Cemetery in Hale, Michigan. A Celebration of Irene’s Life will be announced and held at a later date this summer.

Obituary Notice

Irene Faith Ubbenjans, age 85 of South Branch, passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2021 with her family by her side. She wanted to be with her sweetheart, Bernie, for Valentine’s Day.

Sadly, Irene’s son, Dennis, passed away on February 18, 2021.

She battled through numerous cancers in her lifetime. She was a warrior and such a strong person to keep fighting on. Her determination to live was incredible. She fought so many cancers. Rest in peace, you deserve it. No more suffering.

She was such a fun person, always ready for a “get together” or planning the next party. She adored her grandchildren and cherished all of her friends. She is fondly remembered for her shenanigans that kept her in “hot water”. She loved everyone and was the friendliest person you could ever meet. She loved her late husband, Bernie, who was her forever sweetheart. God received a beautiful angel. Irene will be missed by many people who will always smile when they think of her.

Irene is survived by her daughter, Denee (Mike Jezewski) Funk of National City. Grandchildren, Kristine (Shane) White of Lake Orion, Chad (Kristen) Avey of Lake Orion, Josh (Brianna) Nassan of Ohio and Julia (Shaun) Nassan of Taylor. Great-grandchildren, Elyse, Landon, Celia, Arianna, Kayleigh and Keterina. Siblings, Gary (Beverly) Corbett of Melbourne, FL, Victor (Jane) Corbett of Grand Blanc and Barbara (John) Sousa of Melbourne, FL. Nieces and nephews also survive.

The Ubbenjans family would like to extend their greatest appreciation to Kim, Deb and staff at the Dialysis Services Center in Tawas. They were so good to Irene and she loved them for their kindness.

Denee, we are so sorry for the loss of your dear mother and brother, they both made the world a bit brighter and happier. We enjoyed being neighbors up north for 50+ years. Memories flooded me, my siblings and extended Blue Ox family when we learned of their passing and shared the news. All of us Blue Ox kids grew up together, taking turns riding minibikes, playing night time games in the woods, and swimming in Jose Lake. It was always exciting to turn onto Blue Ox Trail and see who was up, built in fun just waiting! Our families enjoyed years of waves, small chats, long talks, helping with construction projects, campfires, catching up on the kids as they grew and moved on, and later reunions when we would take turns and return to a place dear to us all to rekindle the friendships. Your folks and Denny attended my parents' 50th, 60th, and 70th anniversary parties - neighbors that become good friends and were included in intimate family gatherings. Later in life, when the folks traveled and eventually moved on, Denny continued to keep an eye on the place. A trusted friend who took turns looking after and feeding the feral cats. My Dad said it best, "Ubbenjans are the best neighbors!" May you be comforted by the fact that they are all together now and the memories of our years and good times together will live on in all of us. XO Cindy Myers Griffin

Renee, Brian and I offer our deepest sympathies to you and your children and your family. Your blessed to have had such loving, caring, thoughtful, joyful, compassionate, vibrant parents as handsome Father Bernie and beautiful Mother Irene. Then add in another blessing your brother Denny, who embodied them both. He was all of those characteristics of your two beautiful parents.
You were always guaranteed a hug from Bernie, Irene and Denny.
The memories are full of great times shared together. Never a dull moment. Always so much fun.
Our lives were blessed to have known them and to have called them our dear friends. Grandma Irene and Uncle Denny you'll be missed. Bernie's celebrating with the Angels, Irene and Denny are home.
