Helen I. Runyan, age 87, of Hale, passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2018. She was born on June 11, 1930 to the late William and Phoebe Robinson in Reno Township. On June 11, 1948 she married her sweetheart Basil Runyan, and except for 9 years in the Upper Peninsula, lived her entire life in Hale. She worked in many areas including telephone operator, waitress, librarian, teacher’s aide, nurse’s aide, Trio Council on Aging assistant, and business owner and operator of the Hale Elevator. She was a farmer from birth, and especially liked her sheep and horses. Helen enjoyed gardening, square dancing, sewing, baking, line dancing, quilting, knitting, writing, crocheting, reading and time with her family. She has won awards for her baking and sewing and has authored a children’s book.
Helen is survived by her children, Rick (Suzanne) Runyan of Hale, Peg Runyan of West Branch, and Brian Runyan of Hale; her brother, Kenneth Robinson of Midland, MI; her grandchildren, Carman Jensen, Belinda Mohr, Sarah Runyan, and Edward Runyan; her great grandchildren, Kaytlyn, Devin, and Chase; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Basil Runyan, and her brothers, Edward and Robert Robinson.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 from 4-8 PM at the Hale Chapel of Buresh Funeral Homes. The funeral will take place at the Buresh Funeral Home on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 11 Am with a visitation one hour prior. Rev. Sherry Parker-Lewis will officiate the service.
