Obituary Notice

Harold A. Cholger, of Wilber Township, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Sunday, September 10, 2017. Harold was born on August 22, 1926 in the very home he lived in for his 91 years. On August 23, 1947, he married his sunshine of his life Margaret Anschuetz, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Tawas City. They were married 64 years before Margaret passed away on July 28, 2012. Harold was well respected in the community and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone. He farmed and tended his cattle up to the last couple of months of his life. Harold retired from Bopp-Busch Manufacturing in Tawas City where he worked for 33 years. He served as the Wilber Township Supervisor for several decades. His accomplishments as Supervisor included reconstruction of township roads. There wasn't anything he couldn't fix or make. He often fabricated or made his own farm equipment. He was a wealth of knowledge and many people sought him out for advice. Harold was a man of few words, but when he spoke, people listened. To quote his grandson Matthew, "He is a man who has taught me a lot of things in life. What my grandfather has taught me I value very much". Harold is survived by his three children, Dennis (Linda) Cholger of East Tawas, Gerry (Melissa) Cholger of Traverse City, and Karen (Terry) Jorgensen of Eaton Rapids; three grandchildren, Matthew Cholger of Traverse City, David Cholger of Traverse City, and Dan Cholger of West Lafayette, Indiana; three step-grandchildren; six great step-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, many dear friends, and his loving caregiver of several years, Shirley Miller. His family will welcome friends at the Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 5:30 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Tawas City with Pastor Mark Lindloff officiating. Harold's family will welcome friends at church Thursday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral. Interment will take place in Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Tawas City. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution are encouraged to make a donation to Emanuel Lutheran Church general church fund in his name. An online guest registry is available at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
