Obituary Notice

Geraldine “Geri” E. Gonyea of Oscoda, MI, formerly of Flint, MI passed away November 10, 2017 at Iosco Medical Care Facility in Tawas, MI.  She was born on June 29, 1927 in Flint, MI to the late John and Ida Brasher. Geri enjoyed singing, writing poetry, cooking, gardening in her flowers, and loved baking for church functions.  She is survived by her loving husband, Lyle Gonyea.  Geri and Lyle met in high school and were married on June 7, 1947 at St. Paul Episcopal Church in Flint, MI.  They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year.  Geri is also survived by her children, Michael (Arlene) Gonyea, Vicki (Dennis) Wiles and Patti (David David) Gonyea; sister, Joyce (Jerry) Blumenschein; grandchildren, Jack Gonyea, Daniel Gonyea and Nichole Cook; great-grandchildren, Shane, Brandon, Ashley, Lylana and Luke and three special friends, Mary LaBranche and Vicki and Jan Biddulph.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Jack and Bill Brasher.  The family will welcome friends from 12:00 PM until the time of the service beginning at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Buresh Funeral Home in Oscoda, MI.  Interment will take place following the funeral in Greenwood Cemetery in East Tawas, MI.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Dementia Society of America and you may offer your condolences online at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.  The entire family would like to give special thanks to the Iosco Medical Care Facility staff for the wonderful care they gave Geri during her time there.
