According to George’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of George’s life will take place 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at the Au Gres Yacht Club, Midshipman Drive, Au Gres, Michigan 48703 where military honors will be rendered. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, Michigan 48442. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Arenac County Animal Shelter, 3750 Foco Road, Standish, Michigan 48658, Compassus Hospice, 3217 West M-76, #B, West Branch, Michigan 48661, or Au Gres Christian Charities, 415 South Court Street, Au Gres, Michigan 48703.

Obituary Notice

George Zoyiopoulos, 82, of Au Gres, Michigan formerly of Grosse Ile, Michigan passed away Thursday afternoon, June 28, 2018 at home with his family by his side.

George was born March 27, 1936 in Mount Clemens, Michigan to the late Arthur and Bertha E. (Dubay) Zoyiopoulos. He proudly served in the United States Army from August 5, 1954 – July 21, 1956. George was an engineer for Ford Motor Company until his retirement in 1991. He married the former Marcia Poole on June 14, 1985 and she survives him. George and Marcia shared many years of sailing, skiing, golfing and travel. He loved to carve wood of any variety and loved passing on those skills even more. He was a member of the Ford Yacht Club since 1971 and the Au Gres Yacht Club since 1991.

In addition to his loving wife, Marcia, George is survived by his sons, Tom Zoyiopoulos and George Zoyiopoulos; brothers-in-law, Bert (Jeanie) Poole, Richard Poole; sisters-in-law, Janet Greenup, Mary (Bethany) Poole, Lynn Zoyiopoulos, Sally Zoyiopoulos; many nieces and nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by brothers, Robert Zoyiopoulos and James Zoyiopoulos; brother-in-law, Eddie Greenup.
