Obituary Notice

Ervin John Smolinski, 95, of South Branch Mi, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather passed away at his home Thursday September 20th. Ervin was born March 17, 1923 in Detroit Mi. He married Wanda Szwed on September 6, 1947 at St. Stanislaus Church, Detroit. They were married for 64 years. He served in the Seabees Division of the United States Navy during the Second World War. He was active in both theaters present at D-Day and Okinawa.

He was a kind, giving man dearly loved by his family and friends. Ervin was well known in the community for his selfless service. He volunteered at St. Vincent De Paul and the Commodities Food Program for many years. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus for over 60 years. Ervin enjoyed gardening, hunting for mushrooms, watching sports and playing cards.

He is survived by his daughters Barbara (Steele) Downer, Carolyn Trompeter, Andrea (John) Maurer, Cheryl (Jim) Linck; sons Allan (Peggy) and John (Tammy), 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Wanda, and son Dennis (Jeannie)

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am Monday September 24th at St. Pius Catholic Church, 3901 M-65 in Hale Mi. The family will receive friends Sunday September 23rd from 4 to 7 at Buresh Funeral Home in Hale. A rosary will be held Sunday evening at 7:00.

Our deepest condolences to your family. We loved talking to Erv when he would come over on his 4 wheeler and talk all about what we and he had growing in the gardens. So glad he had a nice long life and had such a peaceful passing. He will be greatly missed.
