Obituary Notice

Born May 26, 1925 in Dekalb County, Indiana on the family farm near Auburn, Indiana. The last of 8 children of Nathan G. and Zola K. Warford Rufner she graduated from Auburn High School and married Robert Eugene Hart. Not long after their marriage, they moved to New Port News where Robert was stationed with the United States Navy. Later they moved to San Diego, California when Robert was transferred to a destroyer in the South Pacific. Elizabeth worked on Mare Island resupplying the fleet as it came and went during WWII.

At the close of WWII, the couple moved back to Indiana where Robert and Elizabeth both studied at Indiana University and Elizabeth was the house mother at the Knight Clinic for the Deaf, a residence where deaf children lived and were educated. In 1945 they left college and moved to Tecumseh, Michigan when they discovered they were expecting their first child, Robert E. Hart jr. Their second child, Theodore Hart was also born in Tecumseh but only lived 5 days. In 1954 in Hudson, Michigan they had Sherrie Lee Hart (Jaqua) and in 1956 they had T. Joe Hart.

Elizabeth was very active in her church, the Tecumseh Friends Church and was active in many community organizations including Music Society, WCTU, and 4-H Leader. In later years, she became a founding member of the Marquette County Quilters Association and was a member of the National Poetry Society. She received several awards from the Poetry Society for her own poetry which was published in their annual anthologies.

Although Elizabeth was a full time mother and homemaker during the years her family was young, she returned to the working world as they grew older. She worked for JoAnn Fabrics and was the Asst. Manager of Fromm's Hallmark both in Adrian, Michigan. After moving to Marquette with her daughter and family, she worked in the alteration departments with both Getz's Department Store and The Bridal Shop. She was an avid seamstress.

Elizabeth will be sorely missed by her family and is survived by her children Robert E. Hart jr. (Helen) of Flaglar Beach, Florida, Sherrie L. Jaqua (David). Oscoda, Michigan, T. Joe Hart (Christine) Southfield, Michigan. Her grand children Denise M. Dolan (Dennis) Atlanta, Georgia, daughter of Robert and Helen, Matthew D. Jaqua, Freeland, MI, Lucas N. Jaqua (Dawn) Oscoda, MI, Joshua C. Jaqua (pre-deceased), Ariana E. Jaqua Trenary, MI, Bryna K. Nesberg (Andrew) Trenary, MI, Ian R. Jaqua Harrisville, MI children of Sherrie and David, and Rachael Hatch (Evan) Massachusetts Brian Hart Detroit, MI children of T. Joe Hart as well as 15 great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

Cremation handled by Buresh Funeral Home of Oscoda, MI. A Memorial Service will be held near Lake Huron in the Spring for family and friends. Date and time to be announced. You may offer your condolences online at http://www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
