Obituary Notice

Hale and Ann Arbor, Michigan and Fort Myers, Florida

Betsy (Elizabeth) Durbin (age 79) passed away peacefully on August 5. Born in Pontiac and raised in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Betsy was the daughter of Frank and Emma Arnoldi. She graduated from Bloomfield Hills High School, briefly attended the University of Michigan and then returned home to work until marrying her high school sweetheart Harry in 1959. Betsy and Harry moved to East Lansing, where their son Bradley was born, until Harry graduated in building construction. Harry’s career took them to Moline, Illinois for a few years, where daughters Laurie and Anne were born, and then back to Ann Arbor with a local builder.

In Ann Arbor Betsy devoted herself to raising their children and became very involved in Republican Party politics at the local, state and national level. After Harry formed Harry Durbin Builders, Betsy worked at his side growing their custom homebuilding and land development business until they retired in the early 90’s. After retirement they spent their winters at The Hideaway condominiums in Fort Myers and summers at their home on Long Lake in Hale.

Throughout her life, Betsy was an outstanding golfer. She enjoyed cooking, skiing, gardening, reading, boating and so much more. Betsy excelled in her role as a homemaker, devoted mother, grandmother, business partner and political activist. Betsy and Harry entertained frequently, were active socially and traveled extensively here and abroad. They were members at Ann Arbor Golf and Outing and the Hideaway Country Club.

Betsy is survived by her son Bradley (wife Lynette) and their children Alec and Jennifer; her daughter Anne, her granddaughter Danielle Lee (husband Andrew) and their children Audrey and Asher, her granddaughter Kaila, grandson Kyle and his daughter Riley, sister Debby Willing and brother David Arnoldi ( wife Debra.) Betsy was preceded in death by her daughter Laura, mother of Danielle, Kyle and Kaila.

Betsy will be lovingly remembered as a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother. Plans for a memorial service for Betsy and Harry have not been finalized.
