Age 84 of Oscoda, MI went to be with the Lord and joined the band in Heaven on Thursday, November 7, 2019. He was born May 6, 1935 in Detroit, MI to the late Edward C. and Genevieve (nee Schimmel) Fasbender. He joined the U.S. Army in 1954 and was a Korean War Veteran. The Fasbender family moved to the Oscoda area in the 1950’s and owned and operated Ausable Marina. Ed had his Captain’s License and took many chartered fishing trips into Lake Huron with the Edna D. His brothers also built “The Blue Note”, a teenage dance hall at the mouth of the Ausable River, which is now Haglund’s. Ed married the former Joan Beckner on February 11, 1961 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oscoda, MI. He worked many years for the U.S. Postal Service retiring in 1990. In his early years, he was active in the Sacred Heart Credit Union and served on the loan committee. In 1966, he built a home in Silver Sands subdivision where he still resided. He was there for any neighbor in need even if just stopping by to chat. He enjoyed life, family, friendships, playing his guitar, boating, and traveling. Family being the most important. He gave generously to his charities and had a strong faith in God. Ed is survived by his children, Denise Davie, Terry Fasbender, Michelle (James) Baggett, Cindy (John) Podgurski, Sue (Brian) Woloszyk; his grandchildren, Kellie, Sean, Meagan, Shane, Tyler, Mercedes, Noah, and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother David, his sisters, Marianne (John) Previty, Ginny Sullivan and Diane (Ron) Shattuck. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Fasbender in 2015 and 4 brothers, Bernard, Donald, Ronald, and Jerry. The family will welcome friends on Friday, November 15, 2019 from 2:00 to 4 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Buresh Funeral Home, Oscoda, MI. I heard the gentle strumming of guitars, three in perfect harmony but needing a fourth to round out the melody. He is with you now and the music will continue to fill the heavens. Ronny, Donny, Jerry and now Eddie has joined you. The songs will always be in our hearts. Terry, Denise, Michele, Cindy and Susie, how blessed you were to have the greatest Dad on earth. He was so proud of all of you. Sending prayers your way today, tomorrow and always.

Michelle, I am so sorry to hear that your father passed away. It sounds like he was a wonderful man and that he loved his family so much. In some ways I think he was a lot like my father (plays the guitar, always lending a helping hand, and healthy and active most his life). I'm sure you will miss him greatly. Praying that God's peace will surround you and your family as you grieve and share special memories in the days ahead.

We send our deepest sympathies to the immediate and extended Fasbender Family. Being a cousin of Edward and the other Fasbender "kids" has meant a lifetime of fun, laughs, music, and much love at every family gathering. No one is a stranger to a Fasbender for longer than it takes to say "hello." A legend has passed and our wish for all of you, especially Edward's children and siblings, is that memories will help sustain you now and well into the future. Sending much love, Gary and Darlene (Schimmel) Stockman

So sad to hear that my friend and neighbor has passed. From the time meeting Ed out on the base post office mailroom back in 86, he became an instant friend. Knowing that he loved Mexican food, I would bring him Chorizo and Tortillas from Saginaw. After leaving in 89, to finish 4 more years before retiring and returning to Oscoda to live, I moved into the Silver Sands neighborhood and was welcomed by the entire neighborhood annual picnic literally held in my backyard shared by the McCarthys. Joan and Ed were two of the many wonderful people Gwen and I had the privilege of knowing and blessed to share the great times. I used to stop Ed as he passed and tease him about the ugly girlfriend he had in his truck. (His faithful German Shepherd that was always by his side) RIP dear friend and give a kiss to your beautiful Joan for me. My deepest condolences to your family.
