A funeral service will be held on Tuesday May 29, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Oscoda United Methodist Church.
Donald D. Scharich, of Oscoda, passed away peacefully Friday May 25, 2012 at his home, age 76. Don was born in 1935, in Caro, Michigan son of the late Edward and Marie Scharich. He attended Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw and later joined the United States Navy. He worked for Dow Chemical and then served in the United States Air Force. His 20 years in the military took him to Germany, Libya, Panama Canal Zone, and Easter Island. After retiring from the military, Don spent 23 years working for Detroit and Mackinac Railroad and Lake State Railroad. His favorite things were playing golf and watching sports. He leaves his wife of 45 years, Shirley, and four children, son, Lee (Kathryn), daughters, Lori, Linda, and Karen (Thom). He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Carrie, Stacie, Kaitlin, Kelsey, Andrew, and Brandon, and 3 great grandchildren, Tyler - who was his best buddy, Gracie, and Allison. Also surviving are a brother, Gary (Sharon) Scharich, and sister, Judy (Jim) Richter of Saginaw, along with several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and there is a memorial service scheduled for Tuesday May 29, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Oscoda United Methodist Church. His family will welcome friends at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service.
