Funeral service will begin at 3 p.m. with military honors at the funeral home on Friday, September 21, 2018. Cremation will follow.

Obituary Notice

Carl Eugene Freier, 77, of Au Gres, Michigan passed away Monday, September 17, 2018 with his family by his side at home.

Carl was born May 4, 1941 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Melvin J. and Evelyn V. (nee Gray) Freier. He married the former Kay Frances Beem on September 23, 1961 and together they raised three daughters, Carolyn, Dawn, and Karen. Carl proudly served in the United States ARMY for over 20 years as a Mess Sergeant and cook being stationed in Kansas, New York, Germany, and California. Carl retired in 1982. After retirement, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and travelling. Carl was a member of the American Legion in Standish, Michigan.

Carl is survived by his loving wife, Kay; daughters, Carolyn Payne of Tinley Park, Illinois, Dawn Freier (Dan Tracht) of Huron, Ohio, Karen (Tim) Bessey of Oscoda, Michigan; grandchildren, Katie (Mark Recker) Payne, Rosie Payne, Tony and Tonya Payne, Pamela and Ryan Edwards, Andrew and Kayla Brown, Jason Brown; great grandchildren, Dustin, Destanee, Dylan, Allie, Jacob, Calab, Pistol, Ellie, Leland, Jensen, Mariah, Joe and Nick; sisters, Helen (Harold) Rossow and Sally (Lyle) Wolfgang; several nieces and nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by brother, Bud Freier.

Visitation for Carl will take place 12:00 Noon – 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 21, 2018 at Buresh Funeral Home, 101 East Michigan Avenue, Au Gres, Michigan 48703. Funeral ceremony will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home with military honors and Chaplain Lonnie Severance officiating. According to Carl’s wishes, cremation will follow.
