Obituary Notice

Our wonderful, forever-loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Barbara I. Sterling, 89, of Tawas City, went home to be with her Lord, in heaven on May 28, 2018 at Iosco County Medical Care Facility in Tawas Township, Michigan. She was born in Thunder Bay now known as Port Arthur, Canada on September 28, 1928, the daughter of the late Claron L. and Maudie V. (Harris) Braman. Barbara graduated from Bush High School in Center Line, Michigan. She attended Adrian College and coached women’s basketball. She moved to Tawas in the 1950s where the Sterling family built and operated the Hobby Lot for many years. Many tourists and area families enjoyed this summer amusement center. She loved spending time with her family and watching her many grandchildren’s academic, music, and sporting events. She seem to always have time to listen and pray with her friends and family. In her younger years, Barbara spent many summers with her mother at Girl Scout camps mentoring young women. She was described as an adventurous young woman herself, traveling across Canada via railroad, where her grandfather worked. Barbara enjoyed gardening, designing and sewing doll clothes, and playing games, especially cards and puzzles.

Barbara is survived by her children, Mark E. (Sue) Sterling, Claudia R. (Owen) King, Timothy J. (Sandra) Sterling, and David M. (Annie) Sterling; thirteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Barbara’s entire family will miss her dearly and will cherish every moment they had together. In addition to her parents, Claron and Maudie, Barbara was preceded in death by an older brother, Warren L. Braman.

Visitation for Barbara will take place Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and Friday, June 1, 2018 from 10-11 a.m. at Buresh Funeral Home, 416 Whittemore Street, Tawas City, Michigan 48763. Funeral service will begin Friday morning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Tawas City.
