Obituary Notice

Austin L."Larry" Johnson of Hale, passed away April 6, 2016 in Kalamazoo, Michigan at 78 years of age. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, after 51 years of marriage, and whom he dearly loved--which he showed her each and every day. He is survived by his Children; Todd (Tracy) Johnson of Spring Lake and Brett (Keri) Johnson of Kalamazoo. Four grandchildren; Amy, Mary, Sam and Madalyn. Also survived by Merlyn (Helen) Hobson. He also preceded in death by his two children; Austin Johnson and Amy(nee Johnson) Eccles.

Mr. Johnson was a Plant Manager of Battle Creek Equipment, became Superintendent of Assembly and Superintendent of Materials at Clark Equipment Company, a graduate of Michigan State University, a journeyman pipefitter, a U.S. Army Veteran, and a proud 12 year old newspaper boy (with one of "the biggest newspaper routes in Flint" in the 1940's). He always enjoyed reading, politics, providing sage advice that should be heeded (on virtually any topic), movies, Detroit Lion's football, fishing and, of course, eating out and socializing with family and friends. In retirement, he enjoyed working tirelessly on behalf of his family and friends to help them with home remodeling and repairs and playing ball (pitcher) with his friends in Citrus Park, Bonita Springs Fl. Although he was slowly declining in health in his last few years, he was certainly eager to get something done each day, smiled more and more, and loved having a home at Brett's place drinking those 7-Eleven slushes and playing endlessly with his granddaughter Madalyn. While he will be sorely missed by Todd and Brett, family, friends and many others, there is no question he is thankful to be with Mary again.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 P.M., Saturday, June 18, 2016 at the Hale Chapel of the Buresh Funeral Home, 121 S. Washington. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at 12:00 P.M. Please join the family for food and drinks, after the service, at "The Johnson Cottage" located at 5271 S. Chippewa Trail in Hale. Memorial contributions suggested to the Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.

This is my beloved uncle. My mother's brother. Sad to hear he has passed but know he is at peace. Love my family in Michigan. Haven't seen them in many years. Miss the family reunions at Christmas. I Pray God's Blessing on all who are remembering him today.

My eyes tear as I read of Uncle Larry's passing. I have fond memories of our visits to the cabin. The funiest one has to be when, what seemed to me as a child, the whole family walked out on the dock, out back. It was too much for the ol' thing & it collapsed underneath us...Had to have been a Funny sight. Love & Miss you all!! 💗 Much Love, Many Hugs & Blessings to you! xoxo
